Roschier names new Stockholm leadership alongside two partner hires

Roschier has recruited three partners from Vinge and appointed new management to take the helm of the firm’s Stockholm office.

Private equity and M&A partner Malin Leffler and corporate and M&A partners Pontus Enquist and Ola Sandersson are set to join the Finnish firm later this year from the Stockholm office of Sweden’s Vinge.

Meanwhile, Jens Bengtsson, who joined the firm from Linklaters in 2006, has been appointed head of the Stockholm office. Fellow ex-Linklaters partner Fredrik Rydin will serve as office co-head.

Crime in Hamilton, Middletown in decline

Crime in the nation’s largest cities — including the Cincinnati-Middletown metropolitan area — is decreasing, and so is crime in surrounding suburban areas, too, according to a report from the Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institution.

The 23-page report shows in the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas between 1990 and 2008, violent crime fell by 21 percent and property crime declined by 42 percent.

Most recently, FBI crime statistics show that law enforcement across the U.S. reported a 5.5 percent decrease in the number of violent crimes in 2010 compared to 2009.

Violent crime consists of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault, according to the FBI. Propert

Denial Of Motion To Transfer Venue Reversed

In Drucker, et al v. Duvall (4D10-4443), the Fourth District reversed the trial court’s order denying a motion to transfer venue. 

Appellants filed the affidavit of appellant Jonathan Drucker, who averred that appellee executed the engagement agreement in Miami-Dade County, that all transfers into and out of appellants trust account occurred in Miami-Dade County, and that the settlement negotiations occurred outside of Palm Beach County. Appellee responded with legal arguments but offered no affidavits or evidence to support her claim that venue was proper in Palm Beach County.

Former Chairman of Taylor, Bean & Whitaker Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison and Ordered to Forfeit $38.5 Million

WASHINGTON – The former chairman and owner of Taylor, Bean & Whitaker (TBW) was sentenced today to 30 years in prison and ordered to forfeit approximately $38.5 million for his role in a more than $2.9 billion fraud scheme that contributed to the failure of TBW and Colonial Bank.   At one time, TBW was one of the largest privately held mortgage lending companies in the United States and Colonial Bank was one of the 25 largest banks in the United States.   

 

Lee Bentley Farkas was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema in the Eastern District of Virginia.   The sentence was announced by Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer
