Police investigating Lee McMurdo’s murder believe he was dealing a new drug.

McMurdo was found dead by his 12-year-old daughter Lateasha at his rural home, 10km south of Helensville on July 29, but it is believed he died on the morning of July 27.

The 32-year-old was last seen alive on July 26 at 1.40pm and police think his murder may have been an “unintended consequence” of a burglary or a debt recovery attempt.

Today police said they believed McMurdo, who has previously been charged with growing cannabis, was dealing MDVP known as “bath salts” at the time of his death.

Man arrested in death of recent LeMoyne graduate in New York City

New York, NY — A -year-old man has been arrested in the shooting death of a LeMoyne graduate in Harlem on the Fourth of July, according to the New York Police Department.

Khalid Rahman, was charged with felony murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Matt Shaw, 1, who was shot late July 4 outside a friend’s apartment at 1 E. 1th St., authorities said.

Rahman was arrested at 1:4 a.m. Friday at a police precinct in Manhattan, said Officer James Duffy. He was sent to the Manhattan Detention Complex without bail.

No more information was Rahman’s arrest was available Sunday. Shaw’s brother, Jerome Shaw, has said that Shaw just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Shaw was going to enter a graduate program in economics and finance, his brother said.

Defense firms warn of job losses from budget cuts

— The head of a major defense contractor is warning that he might have to lay off 10,000 workers if Congress fails to agree on an alternative to automatic budget cuts.

Robert J. Stevens, chairman and chief executive officer of Lockheed Martin Corp., delivered that message Wednesday in testimony to the House Armed Services Committee. Executives from several other defense manufacturers also sounded the alarm about the across the board reductions slated to go into effect Jan. 2.

Republicans and Democrats are trying to undo the cuts they voted for last summer when they agreed to a deficit-cutting budget.

Presidential history exhibit is coming to Charlotte during DNC

A 30,000-square-foot exhibition recognizing U.S. presidents from George Washington to Barack Obama will be on display in uptown Charlotte during the Democratic National Convention.

The American Presidential Experience 2012 includes replicas of the Oval Office and Air Force One, Harry Trumans 1951 limousine, John Kennedys personal artifacts, said owner Jim Warlick at Tuesdays announcement, delivered from a miniature Oval Office set at Trade and Tryon.

We are literally bringing the Oval Office to you, Mayor Anthony Foxx said. Id like to encourage all Charlotteans to take advantage of this unique and educational opportunity.

The exhibition will be on the corner of West Third and South Mint Streets from Aug. 31 through Sept.

US Attorney General to speak at NAACP convention
