The man accused of killing his girlfriend and a Laurens County sheriff’s deputy is out of the hospital for the first time since a shooting spree Wednesday.

Bennie Ray Brown, Jr., 39, left Greenville Memorial Hospital on Saturday afternoon. Doctors were treating him for a gunshot wound in his leg.

An arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Sunday in Laurens County. Then, authorities said they plan to take Brown to the detention center in Abbeville. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office said it made that decision to ensure his safety while he’s in custody.

Deputies said Brown killed Nicole Kingsborough on Wednesday, shooting her in the parking lot at the Fehrer Plant where she worked.

When Laurens County deputies went to find Brown at his home in Clinton, they say he fired on the officers, killing Deputy Roger Rice, 29.

Rice’s family received mourners Saturday at The Kennedy Mortuary in Laurens. A funeral is set to start at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church on West Main Street in Laurens.

Services for Kingsborough, 38, are set to start at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the New Bethel AME Church in Clinton.

Eighth Circuit Solicitor Jerry Peace said he is reviewing the case before deciding if Brown will face the death penalty.
