Infamous killer Glen Burton Ake dies in prison hospital

Ake was serving two life sentences for fatally shooting an Okarche minister and his wife.
He once had been on death row, but the jury at a retrial chose the life terms instead.
Ake was convicted of murdering the Rev. Richard Douglass and his wife, Marilyn, on Oct. 15, 1979. He also shot the Douglass children, Brooks and Leslie, as the family lay bound on the living room floor. The children survived.
His accomplice, Steven Keith Hatch, was executed in 1996 for the slayings even though he had waited in a car outside the family’s home.
Brooks Douglas, a former state senator, co-wrote and produced a movie, “Heaven’s Rain,” about the tragedy.
