Eversheds has boosted its Hong Kong office with the hire of Morrison & Foerster’s China technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) head Nigel Stamp.

Stamp joined Eversheds this week as a partner and has been handed a brief to expand the firm’s TMT practice in the region.

He specialises in commercial TMT and cross-border projects in the Asia-Pacific region, with clients including film companies and US and Japanese investment banks.

Stamp commented: “Eversheds has a clear strategy for growth in Asia-Pacific, which is aligned with my own ambitions to continue growing my practice.”

Before joining Morrison & Foerster in 2006, Stamp was a partner at Clifford Chance and then at Bird & Bird. He also worked at a senior level in software development for computer giant NEC and Japanese investment house Nomura.

Eversheds last year confirmed plans to expand into Beijing after the firm’s Shanghai office passed its three-year probationary period.

However, Shanghai managing director Peter Corne later announced his departure from the firm to join US firm Dorsey & Whitney in early 2011, where he now heads up the firm’s Shanghai base.
